THE SLEEPING SHARKS

For the intrepid divers is a challenge to visit the Cave of the Sleeping Sharks. It was discovered in 1969 by a local fishermen of Isla Mujeres known by the nickname of "Valvula" (Gauge) and made public by the underwater photographer Ramon Bravo who died in February 1998.

The cave is formed by coraline formations with inner chambers where the sharks remain sleepping and the divers can get close to them; an explanation is that the low sality of the water produce somnolency in the sharks besides that helps to erradicate the parasites that are adhered to their skin. This diving place represent risk and is only recommended for advanced divers.
